Why This Cacao & Kefir Elixir is a Game-Changer
This elixir isn't just a delicious drink; it's a potent, holistic upgrade to your daily routine. Chef Chippy Grant designed it to nourish your body and mind on three key levels:
-
Ultimate Gut Support: The blend of creamy Kefir delivers a powerful dose of probiotics, while high-fiber ingredients like cacao act as prebiotics to feed your beneficial gut bacteria, promoting deep digestive balance.
-
Stress & Mood Support: We include Oat Straw, a potent herb known as a nervine, which gently soothes the nervous system, helping to reduce stress and anxiety while supporting mental focus.
-
Sustained, Clean Energy: The healthy fats from coconut and the natural boost from cacao provide long-lasting vitality without the jitters or crash associated with coffee, leaving you energized and clear-headed for hours.
Creamy Cacao & Coconut Gut Elixir
Yields: 2 servings
Prep time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- Coconut Water 1 cup / 240g
- Coconut Kefir ½ cup / 120g
- Chopped Cacao 2 tbsp / 20g
- Oat Straw Powder 2 tbsp / 6-10g (or grind dried oat straw herb into a powder)
- Rolled Oats¼ cup / 25g
- Hemp Seeds 2 tbsp / 20g
- Hot Water 10-15ml (turn kettle off just before boiling)
- 1 Frozen Banana (optional, for added thickness and sweetness)
- Ice cubes (optional)
Method:
1. Prepare the Cacao Paste: Place the chopped cacao (or nibs) and a splash of hot water (kettle turned off just before boiling) into a small mug or bowl. Stir vigorously until the cacao is fully melted and forms a thick, smooth paste. This prevents grit and ensures a rich chocolate flavor.
2. Combine Ingredients: Pour the melted cacao paste into a high-speed blender. Add the coconut water, coconut kefir, oat straw powder, rolled oats, and hemp seeds.
3. Blend: Add the frozen banana and/or ice cubes, if desired. Blend all ingredients on high speed for 30–60 seconds, or until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy.
4. Adjust Consistency:
- If the elixir is too thick, add a small splash of extra coconut water or kefir.
- If it is too thin, add a few more rolled oats or ice cubes and blend again.
5. Serve: Pour the elixir into two glasses and enjoy immediately.
Key Functional Benefits:
-
Probiotics for Gut Health: The Coconut Kefir is a powerful source of live and active probiotic cultures, which are beneficial for the balance of your gut microbiome, digestion, and immune function.
-
Fiber and Satiety: The Oats and Hemp Seeds are excellent sources of fiber, which aids digestion, promotes regularity, and helps you feel full longer.
-
Antioxidants and Minerals: Cacao is a known superfood, rich in antioxidants (like flavanols) and minerals (like magnesium).
-
Hydration and Electrolytes: Coconut Water provides natural hydration and essential electrolytes like potassium.
-
Nervous System Support: Oat Straw (a herbal part of the oat plant) is traditionally considered a "nervine," meaning it's used to support and calm the nervous system, adding a unique, functional benefit to the drink.
